A hanging in Lewistown, Part 1: double murder at the Musselshell

Wednesday, Oct. 5, 1898, Fergus County Argus:

The 76-year-old Farquhar McRae's place is indicated as a yellow dot. It was on the Big Box Elder creek as it pours into the FlatWillow, which runs east another twenty or so miles to the Musselshell River. The latter was "discovered" by Lewis and Clark.
This, of course, is a much wider view, showing Lewistown, seventy miles to the west of McRae's place.
Can you still spot the yellow dot? It's way off to the top right. Click on graphic to enlarge.

The Musselshell is generally narrow and shallow. It is a tributary
to the Missouri River.
