1883: the "Jenni boys"

The article below is from the Benton Weekly Record, August 8, 1883.
It will give us a sense of what the world was like at that place and time—the land to the west of Lewistown, back in the 1880s.
Early in his travels, the writer comes across the "Jenni boys, John and Fred." They have, he says, one of the best oat fields on the creek."
Fred and John were brothers, having come over from Switzerland in 1869 with their parents, Samuel Jenni and Anna Legessmen, and siblings, including Gottlieb, who would also settle in the area. At the time of this encounter, they would have been in their twenties (Fred was about 27; John would have been about 20).
Eventually, Fred had lots of kids, including Fred Junior, born in 1897. Fred Junior is the "Fred" of this blog's name.
